Centre for Women’s Rights organises film exhibition
The Centre for Women’s Rights of JGU organised on September 27 a film exhibition as part of the ‘Gender in Hindi Cinema’ elective course. Titled ‘Victim, Vamp or Venator? Gender in Hindi Cinema’, the exhibition, curated by students, explored diverse facets of gender representation in Bollywood.
Interactive segments, including games and discussions, sparked debates on gender and sexuality in Bollywood, encouraging the audience to engage with the themes presented. This exhibition offered a nuanced analysis of Bollywood’s gender narratives, ranging from queer representation to female trailblazers. The event not only educated but also inspired ongoing dialogue on gender representation in cinema.
The event was led by students under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Saumya Uma and Prof. Spriha Bhandari, with support from the CFWR team, including Dr. Aditi Krishna, Ms. Akshata A. Ahire, and Prof. (Dr.) Niharika Banerjea. Special thanks were extended to Dr. Prerna Subramanian for her expert contributions. Photography credits were given to Upasana Khattri, Akshata A. Ahire, Dr. Aditi Krishna, and Prof. Spriha Bhandari.
