November 19, 2019: The O. P. Jindal Global University (JGU), which has recently been recognised as an Institution of Eminence by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, has announced the start of the application process for admission to its academic programmes starting next year in 2020.
The youngest Indian University to feature in the prestigious QS World University Rankings, JGU offers students 14 undergraduate, 6 post-graduate and a doctoral programme. Aspirants can choose from an array of interdisciplinary degree programmes across law, business, international affairs, public policy, liberal arts, journalism, architecture and finance.
JGU, an initiative of the Jindal Steel and Power Foundation (JSPL), is ranked amongst the top 2.67% of all universities globally, as per the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2020. At JGU, students develop a global perspective through exposure to global faculty, curriculum, research, and collaborations in an intensive research environment. Over 50% of JGU faculty have qualifications from the top 200 universities globally.
Early applicants will get an opportunity to get a confirmed decision as early as January 2020, keeping in view the timeline for the assessment of application. While admission to the University is based on a holistic assessment including academic merit, entrance examination and faculty interview, financial aid is assessed on a merit-cum- means basis. A majority of JGU students are given some form of financial aid.
This year, incoming students will have four new contemporary programmes to look forward to, and two of these are the first of their kind in the country. These unique programmes are designed keeping in mind the fast paced developments across the world.
The B.A. (Hons.) in Political Science degree is a three-year under-graduate programme that is dedicated to the study of political evolution of the world we live in. This degree aims to train students in all forms and manifestation of politics including from local, state, national and international levels.
The B.A. (Hons.) in Social Sciences and Policy is a unique and first of its kind interdisciplinary programme in India, which provides the students with a solid grounding in social science theories and their applications.
The B.A. (Hons.) in Legal Studies aims to nurture legal imagination among young students and build a strong foundation to study law and social sciences in the future or be absorbed into legal and allied fields. This programme is the country’s first ever multi-disciplinary undergraduate degree in legal studies.
The M.A. (Economics) programme fills important gaps in post-graduate Economics courses as they are presently taught in most places in India and abroad. This unique programme will impart knowledge and skills that will be increasingly in demand in the foreseeable future, focusing on excellence in academia, policy teams in corporations, consultancy companies, non-profit organisations, and governments at national, state and local levels.
JGU Founding Vice Chancellor, Professor Raj Kumar said, “JGU provides an enriching, intellectually engaging, and discovery-based learning environment for students, including opportunities for engaging in interdisciplinary research, summer and winter internships in leading organisations, semester abroad, participation in community service projects and in national and international academic, cultural, sports and other events. I am confident that our incoming students will make full use of this extraordinary opportunity.”
Registrar, JGU, Professor Y. S. R. Murthy said, “JGU maintains a world-class faculty-student ratio of 1:10 and is deeply committed to its core institutional values of interdisciplinary and innovative pedagogy. It appoints experienced faculty members, with outstanding academic qualifications from reputed institutions across the world, including Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Berkeley and Cornell. Moreover, the university’s partnerships with more than 250 global institutions across 55 countries provide global exposure to students through attractive study abroad options such as semester abroad, summer abroad and dual degree programmes”.
The University also lays a strong emphasis on experiential learning and consciously promotes learning beyond textbooks – through field visits, case studies and simulations, helping students understand ground reality, without being restricted to a theoretical understanding of the world around them.
JGU students have the opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary programmes in an enabling, diverse, multicultural environment with an emphasis on community engagement, and opportunities to study at some of the best universities in the world, thereby gaining a unique repertoire of qualities: a capacity for self-reflection; intercultural sensitivity; a sense of social, civic and environmental responsibility; and commitment to being ethically and socially responsible global citizens.
Since 2012, nearly 3000 students have earned their degrees from various programmes across JGU. Over eight years, our graduates have gone on to form a strongly knit community that comprises some of the most talented and committed individuals within their domains of work and study.
