The key distinguishing factors of the program are – 100% industry integration including collaborations with KPMG and Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), USA; three mandatory research and internship opportunities; and eight different specializations- Sales & Marketing, Advertising and Promotion, Financial Management, Personal Finance Planning, Auditing, Wealth Management, Entrepreneurship and General Management.

Welcoming the first batch of B Com students, Vice Chancellor JGU, Professor (Dr) C Raj Kumar said, “In JGU, it’s our endeavour to build a broad foundation and critical skillset necessary to succeed in a global environment. The program is an initiative in that. The course program has a curriculum which is designed based on inputs from the industry globally and hence has the content which will impart the student with the latest knowledge and skills as per industry requirements. A very practical oriented curriculum which does not encourage rote learning. This helps students improve their application skills rather than just have theoretical knowledge”.

The new B. Com (H) program is designed to cater to the emerging needs of commerce education with a high level of industry relevance. KPMG India, IMA, USA and IBM India have played a strategic role in designing and delivering this course. Students of this program will be co-taught by the industry and international partners as a part of course work. Students will be eligible to appear for international CMA certification while doing this course. KPMG is going to teach 200 class hours and students will be part of their K-CAP program. While a normal B. Com (H) program opens limited job opportunities, the new program has six career tracks in wealth management, certified financial planning, insurance, advertising and sales, auditing and capital markets. The program is aimed at designing and delivering relevant content in the area of International Financial Reporting System, Global Accounting Standards, Digital Finance and Financial Technology. Students will work on various software platforms and will be trained on various finance and stock market related simulations so that they can be made industry ready as soon as they complete the course.

The Dean of JGBS, Dr Tapan Panda is of the view that, “Such a program will bring paradigm shift in the way a commerce program in taught in India. True to its core of being a global business school, the program aims at training students in relevant and emerging disciplines and opening new areas of career opportunities. Students of this program can also join pathway programs of partner international universities in US, UK, Australia so that they not only get global exposure but also a global degree for them to work across different countries”

Professor Ravi Agarwal about the genesis of the B.Com. (Hons.) program. According to him, the key distinguishing factors of the program are “100% industry integration including collaborations with KPMG and IMA, USA, three mandatory research and internship opportunities, and eight different specializations- Sales & Marketing, Advertising and Promotion, Financial Management, Personal Finance Planning, Auditing, Wealth Management, Entrepreneurship and General Management.

Mr. Gaurav Vohra, Partner, KPMG shared an interesting theory: “One who knows ‘how’ will always have a job and the one who knows ‘why’ will always be their boss. We have to make bosses out of you.”

The program has been designed to offer students practical insight along with cutting edge classroom learning experience.

Mr. Shikhar Jain, Head, Sustainability, Confederation of Indian Industry(CII) focused on its importance: “The major difference between the Indian and foreign education systems is the latter’s focus on practical application. Understand the practical applications of things that you learn.”

The inaugural ceremony was a great learning experience for the founding batch as they witnessed industry and academia leaders engaging in a discussion on ‘Innovative Management Control System for Effective Performance & Sustainability’, moderated by Professor (Dr.) Pankaj Gupta, the panel discussion constituted ideal stimulation for students.
