Programme Structure

The B.A. and B.Sc. Economics (Hons. ) programmes offered by the Jindal School of Government and Public Policy is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of economic interactions through theoretical and practical training. The curriculum aims to equip students with the ability to carefully unpack and analyse economic problems and explore alternative solutions to those. Graduates of the programmes possess the following abilities:

  1. Understand the relationship between the economy and the society.

  2. Consider economic issues from a global perspective and offer solutions at the local level.

  3. Establish connections between different components of the economy.

  4. Assess the implications of economic policy decisions.

  5. Address economic problems arising from society in general and its various interacting units.

The curriculum of the B.A. and B.Sc. Economics (Hons.) programmes are mathematically intensive and analytically rigorous. The course curriculum of the programmes consists of years divided into eight semesters. The first two years are dedicated to building a strong foundation in core economics areas such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Statistics, and Econometrics. In the second year students also have the opportunity to choose a minor field offered by other schools within the University. In the third year, along with building on their understanding of more sub-fields of economics such as Public Economics, Development Economics, and International Trade, students have the flexibility to choose electives based on their interests while also developing soft skills such as writing, reading, speaking and presentation.

Students are also trained in statistical programming languages such as Python, R, and STATA, which are valuable skills in the field of economics. Regular workshops on statistical programming languages are conducted to help students develop and hone their skills.

Eligibility & Selection Process

The minimum eligibility for the B.A. / B.Sc. (Hons.) Economics programme at JSGP require successful completion of class 12 examination in any stream from an Indian or recognized international board (CBSE/ISC/State Board/Cambridge/IB/NIOS). IB students must secure a diploma with minimum 24 credits with minimum 3HL and 3 SL subjects. For students enrolled in the Cambridge Board, applicants must appear for a minimum of 3 subjects at the A-level to be eligible to apply.

Applicants are selected through a holistic admission process conducted over three rounds based on a personal statement, supplemental application, X and XII grade marks, personal interview, and Jindal Scholastic Aptitude Test (JSAT) score or equivalent (SAT/ACT).

O.P. Jindal Global University awards Merit cum Means Scholarships (MCM) every year. The MCM Scholarship entitles students to tuition fee waivers. The eligibility criteria includes annual family income, XII board score, JSAT or standardized examination results and faculty interview score. Weightage will also be given to curricular and extra- curricular achievements.

JGU has established tie-ups with AVANSE(ICICI), Dena Bank and Credila(HDFC) to facilitate educational loans for students who are admitted to the UG and PG Programme.
