The Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA) of O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) has increased its outreach to diverse organisations for possible student career options. The variegated fields in which JSIA has been creating professional opportunities for its students include research institutes, think tanks, consultancies, NGOs, media and corporate houses, the development sector, risk analyses consultancies, political consultancies, governmental organisations, diplomatic missions and human rights and humanitarian organisations.
This year, organisations like the Climate Group, SHOOGLE TGES, Global Counter Terrorism Council, Max Securities, Grid 91, Chase India, Human Rights Law Network, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Mitkat Advisory, Red R, and Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) have selected JSIA’s graduating Masters students to work with them. The students have been designated to work as Analysts, Consultants, Research Assistants, Teaching Assistants and Geopolitical Risk Analysts in these organisations.
More than 40 organisations have considered Bachelors and Masters students of JSIA this year for placements and internships. Some of the leading names are Centre for Human Rights, Quint, Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Federation of Indian Small and Medium Enterprises (FISME), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Embassy of Lebanon, Embassy of Iran, Embassy of Brazil, Teach for India, Swaniti Initiative, Strategic foresight, Reliance JIO, QED Group India, DFY-India, China India Foundation, Pollution Action Group, Takshashila Institution, Observer Research Foundation, CRY, CARE India, OXFAM, Development Alternatives, Pragya, Gateway House, Center for Land and Warfare Studies (CLAWS), Republic TV and News 18.
Some of JSIA’s students are also aiming for civil services while some have been offered admission to higher education degrees in renowned universities like Hebrew University of Jerusalem, St John’s College, Oxford University and the University of Leiden. Indian and International organisations like UNDP, KPMG, Black Knight Media Group (Myanmar), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Mitkat Advisory and Red R have also been associated with JSIA for students’ capstone research projects which combine academic learning with practical work experience.
In this context, the Dean of JSIA, Professor Sreeram Chaulia, remarked: “The study of International Relations and Global Affairs is slowly picking up in India because of the pioneering efforts JSIA has made since 2011 in assisting students with careers in unconventional paths. The fact that so many of our graduates are shining in a variety of sectors bears testament to the high quality of education we are imparting, as well as the skills and career guidance we are providing. This is an example of how a niche area of study can be popularised in a developing country like India where the mainstream bias has been towards science, technology and professional degrees rather than social sciences.”
JSIA has also achieved 95% of internships based on student interest at more than 50 organisations this year. Here is a sample of Indian and international organisations where JSIA’s students have interned in 2019.
