- Over 100 Jindal law graduates to pursue corporate, advocacy and educational careers
Placements 2017 at the Jindal Global Law School of O.P. Jindal Global University registered a remarkable demand for leadership roles from international and domestic law firms, think tanks and corporate houses. The School witnessed a 33% increase in the number of recruiters participating in the current placements season and over 81 organizations, both domestic and international firms made 108 offers to students of the Class of 2017.
Economic Laws Practice, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Khaitan & Co, Lex Favios, Trilegal, Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, Nishith Desai Associates, Wadia Ghandy & Co., S&R Associates, Bharucha & Partners, Kanga & Co, Remfry & Sagar, Inttl Advocare, Advaita Legal, Pricewater House Cooper, HCL, Clutch Group, Thomson Reuters, JSPL, and Wizcraft International etc. are some of the organizations that have made offers to the graduating batch.
A notable number of the graduating students have also chosen to pursue careers in policy research and have secured positions at Lamp Fellowship, Gandhi Fellowship, Teach for India, The Legist Foundation, CUTS International and CSO.
This year’s recruitment highlight is the appointment of Mr. Wali Zardan from the LL.M. batch, who was recently appointed as the Legal Director of the Ministry of Mines & Petroleum of the Government of Afghanistan. “The learning opportunities provided at Jindal Global Law School along with their outstanding faculty members has led to these fruitful results being experienced today. I am delighted and excited and indeed grateful to my alma mater, JGU,” he said.
In an unprecedented manner, India’s premiere corporate law firm, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) has made offers to 11 students of the graduating batch. In addition to being preferred by the leading Indian law firms, JGLS graduates are also being recruited by international law firms. To the credit of this batch is the addition of the 2ndinternational law firm to JGLS’ list of foreign law firms with the London-based HerbertSmith Freehills offering a training contract to one of the students graduating this year. The US-law firm, White & Case is another leading international law firm that has hired JGLS graduates in the past.
JGU Founding Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of Jindal Global Law School, Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, said, “We expect several other domestic and international law firms to hire from our future graduating batches as several law firms have signed MoUs with our university for offering internships to our students. JGLS prides itself for facilitating a diversified range of professional opportunities to its graduates. These opportunities are not limited to corporate law firms, but also include in-house counsel positions at corporations and business enterprises, consultancy firms, investment banks, think tanks, research institutions, non-governmental organisations, intergovernmental organisations, government agencies, litigation practices at lawyers’ chambers and judicial clerkships with judges of the High Courts and the Supreme Court of India. Internships have become the most preferred route for hiring law students by Indian and international law firms, and we will continue to focus on expanding this network.”
Several Jindal graduates have also chosen to pursue higher studies and have secured admission to study LL.M and other degree programmes. There are many other students who are also preparing to take administrative services and competitive exams.
