PROF. KARIN COSTA VAZQUEZ is Associate Professor of Diplomatic Practice and Assistant Dean for Global Engagement at O.P. Jindal Global University School of International Affairs, and Executive Director of the first Center for African Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CALACS) at an Indian private University. She is also a Fudan Scholar at the Center for BRICS Studies at Fudan University (China) and Visiting Scholar at the Far Eastern Federal University (Russia). Her research lies in the intersection of South-South Cooperation, sustainable development, and development financing with a focus on the BRICS countries and the new development banks of the South.

Prof. Vazquez has vast experience in policy-oriented research, advisory and management of multi-million development programs in Multilateral Development Banks (e.g. World Bank, the Interamerican Development Bank, and the Islamic Development Bank) and the UN (e.g. United Nations Development Programme, UNFCCC). Prof. Vazquez is a career civil servant currently on leave from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she assisted development cooperation initiatives in Africa and Latin America.

Prof. Vazquez is a regular contributor to leading media outlets (e.g. Financial Times, Al Jazeera, South China Morning Post, BBC, Radio France International, Folha de São Paulo, Valor Economico, Financial Express), has published in internationally acclaimed academic journals, and ranks among the top social media influencers worldwide connecting the public with the UN @UNsocial500 #UNSocial500.

She holds a Masters in Economic and Political Development (Columbia University) and in International Comparative Politics (University of Brasilia), and completed her undergraduate studies in economics (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) and Law (State University of Rio de Janeiro). Prof. Vazquez is fluent in English and Portuguese and has advanced knowledge of Spanish and French.

Prof. Vazquez is a member of the International Studies Association (ISA) and of the Brazilian Association of Chinese Studies. She was non-resident Fellow at the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI) between 2016-2017, member of the Latin American Council on Social Sciences (CLACSO) Working Group in South-South Cooperation (2013-2016) and member of the Network of Southern Think-Tanks (NeST).
