About the Speaker - Makarand R Paranjape has served as Professor of English at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) for nearly 25 years and was formerly Director of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (Shimla). He has held prestigious fellowships and visiting professorships, including the inaugural India Chair at the National University of Singapore, the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies, and the inaugural Erich Auerbach Visiting Chair in World Literature at the University of Tübingen. A distinguished poet, novelist, critic, and commentator, he has authored or edited over 50 books and published 200 academic papers/book chapters. His latest books include Mahatma Gandhi: Mrityu aur Punarutthan (Penguin Swadesh, 2024) and Identity’s Last Secret (BluOne Ink, 2023).
