Biography

Shubhangi Aggarwal is a Lecturer of Philosophy at the Jindal School of Government and Public Policy, O.P. Jindal Global University. She holds an M.Phil. and M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Delhi, along with a B.A. (Hons.) in Philosophy, also from the University of Delhi. She is a recipient of the prestigious Junior Research Fellowship from the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), awarded for her doctoral research that advances original arguments for the moral standing of plants.

Prior to joining JSGP, she held the position of Assistant Professor at Indraprastha College for Women, University of Delhi, and has taught at several colleges of the University of Delhi, including Ramanujan College, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, Dyal Singh College, and Daulat Ram College where she designed and delivered courses like Ethics in the Public Domain, Bioethics, Applied Ethics, Critical Thinking and Decision Making, Feminism, Aesthetics, Greek Philosophy, Indian Philosophy, and Environmental Ethics. Her research lies at the intersection of environmental ethics, legal philosophy, and applied ethics, with a central concern for reimagining the moral and legal standing of non-human nature. Her work engages foundational questions about the rights of natural entities, environmental justice in the context of technology transfer and hazardous waste, and the ethical dimensions of public health emergencies. She has also published on classical Indian philosophy, including studies of the Muṇḍaka and Bṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣads, and on the philosophy of consciousness. Her work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals and edited academic volumes. Additionally, she has presented her work at national seminars and invited lecture series. She has also completed specialized training from Tel Aviv University, Israel, in Plant Physiology, reflecting the interdisciplinary curiosity that informs her environmental philosophy. Beyond teaching and research, she has been an active institution-builder- mentoring student research presentations, organizing multi-day academic webinar series, and serving on important academic and administrative committees.
