Prachi Bansal completed her Ph.D. in Economics from the Centre for Informal Sector and Labour Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi, India (2017-2022). Her doctoral research titled “Labour Absorption in Indian Agriculture since Independence: A Study based on Farm Enterprise Data” delved into crucial aspects of Indian agriculture’s workforce dynamics.
She has participated in large-scale socio-economic field surveys in over 17 villages across Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Udaipur. She does primary field survey based research and is trained in all major secondary large-scale datasets.
Prachi Bansal has a rich and diverse experience in various research positions and has served as an Agricultural Statistician at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Thailand and has worked on important projects related to data anonymization techniques, women’s participation in agriculture, and Sustainable Development Goals.She also worked as a Consultant for the International Labour Organization (ILO), Geneva, where she contributed to projects focusing on child labour, forced labour, and human trafficking, using knowledge to accelerate progress in their elimination. She was awarded a competitive seed grant of 10,000 USD from the International Labour Organization for her outstanding research proposal on “Modern Forms of Debt-Bondage in Rural India"". She has also received the Azim Premji Foundation Research Funding programme Grant (2021) for her work on the care economy in India.
She is the Disability Support Committee Representative for JSGP and had conducted India's first workshop for teaching quantitative methods using R software to the blind in Azim Premji University in 2023. She has been a regular visiting faculty at the Asian College of Journalism since 2017 in Chennai to teach ""Quantitative Methods using R"" to journalists in the Bloomberg Program. She recently conducted a workshop on NSS data exploration in the University of Kashmir for faculty and post-graduate students of the Economics department.
