Starting from 2021, Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) provides the 5-year integrated B.Com. LL.B. Honours programme, which blends commerce and law courses in accordance with the current regulations of the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission. The programme strives to cultivate a scholarly and academically outstanding environment for its students.
The B.Com. LL.B programme provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the legal discipline by integrating accounts, commerce, and law courses. This multidisciplinary approach equips students with the ability to apply legal principles to real-world scenarios.
The programme's core curriculum includes foundational courses, while elective courses and independent research projects allow students to explore their interests. Additionally, internships in various fields such as corporate taxation, law firms, start-ups, advisory and legal consultancy, capital market and finance-related internships, auditing and accounting firms, international law firms, and international organizations provide students with exposure to diverse career options.
Through internships and the law school curriculum, students gain a deeper understanding of the legal system, enabling them to envision a variety of career paths, including higher education. This prepares them to enter the legal profession with the necessary skills to communicate effectively in a legal setting, interpret and apply laws, specialize in legal subjects of interest, and succeed in legal employment.
The B.Com. LL.B. (Hons) curriculum at JGLS is comprised of both compulsory and elective courses, each with a maximum duration of one semester. The compulsory courses are designed to provide a fundamental understanding of the essential branches of law and to fulfill the necessary requirements for admission to practice. The elective courses offer an opportunity for students to pursue their specific interests and expand their knowledge.
Each full semester course is worth 4 credits, except for electives that may range from 4 to 1 credits. To achieve a full-time load of 40 credits per year, students must complete a minimum of 20 credits per semester. Students may request to take on a higher load, not exceeding 28 credits per semester, with the approval of the Office of Academic Affairs.
To be awarded a B.Com. LL.B. Honours programme degree, students must earn a minimum of 208 credits, distributed as follows: two English language courses worth 8 credits; at least 12 compulsory courses in accounts, business, commerce, and social science subjects worth 48 credits; at least 20 compulsory law courses worth 80 credits; at least 14 elective courses (including 8 courses for honours degree) worth 56 credits; and 4 compulsory clinical courses worth 16 credits.
Moreover, students may earn credits by participating in co-curricular activities that develop their legal reasoning skills and enhance their understanding of the law.
