On 4 April 2018, Professor Fazal Rizvi, Professor of Global Studies in Education, University of Melbourne delivered a talk on “Challenges of Transnational Research Collaborations in Australian Higher Education”, held at O.P. Jindal Global University. During the lecture, Professor Rizvi noted that over the past two decades governments and institutions of higher education in Australia have embraced the idea of transnational research collaborations for a whole variety of reasons. He further stated that transnational research collaboration finds solutions to globally inter-connected and inter-dependent problems, nurtures lasting relationships, influences soft diplomacy, opens doors and facilitates access to new markets, international trade, regional security, investments and political and social reform and perhaps promotes democratic values. However, Professor Rizvi noted that as appealing as these expectations are, the potential of transnational research collaborations is not easily realised. Indeed, such collaborations face a range of challenges, not only in their design but also implementation.
