The B.A. (Hons.) English and B.A. (Hons.) English with Research programmes are well-designed curricula delivered through the Jindal School of Languages and Literature that, first, lead students to mastery of the English language, and second, encourage their intensive engagement with literary and performative cultures expressed in the English language. 

An undergraduate degree in English can help lead students to a wide variety of careers and as well as to fulfilling engagements with the world of art and culture.  The degree is pre-professional and prepares students for a wide range of careers. 

Students enrolled in the B.A. (Hons.) English and B.A. (Hons.) English with Research programmes are encouraged to take courses in  foreign languages, including Spanish, French, and German (through the Office of English and Foreign Languages).  Courses in Spanish language, literature, and culture are regularly offered by JSLL faculty. These opportunities enhance the students’ communication skills and cultural awareness. B.A. (Hons.) English is a pre-professional degree that prepares students for a range of career opportunities in fields such as academia, journalism, publishing, and media.


Scope of the Course
  • JSLL offers courses on British, American, Indian, and Commonwealth literature, as well as courses on literary theory, criticism, and linguistics. 
  • Through its programmes, JSLL encourages students to engage not only with English literature, but also with English as a medium with which to explore world literature.
  • The programme offers students the opportunity to master the English language and engage in intensive study of literary, cultural, visual, and performative arts. Skills mastered by language and literature graduates can be combined with other analytical, critical thinking, and vocational skills.
  • JSLL gives its students a competitive edge in their future academic and professional pursuits. English graduates who go on to postgraduate and professional study programmes find that their language proficiency and analytical abilities feed into their further training. English graduates find it very easy to move into quite specialized knowledge domains.

Eligibility & Selection Process
  1. To be eligible for the B.A. (Hons.) English Programme at JSLL, applicants must have successfully completed their Class XII examination or an equivalent exam recognized by the government, such as CBSE, State Boards, IB, or Cambridge. Students from any academic stream, including Arts, Commerce, and Science, are welcome to apply.

  2. Candidates will be selected for the programme through a three-round admission process. This process will consider several factors, such as the candidate’s personal statement, answers to supplemental questions, Class 10 and 12 marks, faculty interview performance, and at par JSAT/SAT/ACT score

*The Tuition fee, accommodation charges and other allied service charges are subject to an annual increase of ten percent (10%).

**The security deposit will be fully refunded, subject to the completion of studies and/or receipt of a ‘No Dues Certificate’. The security deposit shall not carry any interest.

Scholarships

O.P Jindal Global University awards Merit cum Means Scholarships (MCM) every year. The MCM Scholarship covers the tuition fees only. Scholarship will be opened by the University by 1 April and will be awarded to eligible students in July. The eligibility criteria include annual family income, XII board score, JSAT or standardized examination results and faculty interview score. Weightage will also be given to curricular and non-curricular achievements.

JGU has established tie-ups with AVANSE (ICICI), DenaBank and Credila (HDFC) to facilitate educational loans for students who are admitted to the B.A. (Hons.) in English
