About the Performance:
“The Trojan Women”, written by Euripides in 415 BCE, and adapted by Jean-Paul Sartre, is a harrowing exploration of war, focusing not on the victors but on the defeated. Set against the now-ruined civilisation of Troy, the play’s narrative allows the viewer to comprehend the cost and sacrifices of human conquest. The central characters in the play become both symbols of resilience as well as devastation, fighting against the oppressors, but simultaneously bringing ruin to themselves. Loss, tragedy, sacrifice and solidarity become the overarching symbols in the play, and resonate not only in this historical tragedy, but also work as allegories in our contemporary reality as well.
The students at the Jindal School of Journalism and Communication, under the guidance of Professor Supriya Shukla, have visualised the play, giving life to the tragic narrative.
