This research conference is an invitation to engage with transitions in visual cultures from diverse disciplinary perspectives. While visual cultures have been in transition throughout human history, rapid changes in more recent times – in form and in content, in practices of production, dissemination and consumption – have made the understanding of such transitions both challenging and urgent. Over two days, we bring together scholars and practitioners to think together and critically examine how these shifts are reshaping meaning-making, visual literacy, political communication, identity formation, and cultural memory. The conference aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogues across media and communication studies, visual anthropology, art history, cultural studies, film practice, and related research and practice-based domains.
