First Draft is a student-run multimedia webzine of the Jindal School of Journalism and Communication. We return with First Draft in a revamped form this time, with a theme-centric issue, contributions from students across JGU, and a new website.
The theme of the Spring 2026 issue is Migration, with its multiple meanings and contexts in a fragmented world. This issue explores migration through the lens of law, politics, economics and reflects on its depictions in cinema and literature. It also attempts to articulate the experiences of so many of us on campus who have left home to study and work. Contributions range from personal and review essays, to opinion pieces, and photo and audio essays.
In concept and experience, migration has a contentious past and present. We put out this issue in the hope that this may change, that understanding some of its many shades may instead bring us a little closer as a community. We hope you will read, see, and listen to the magazine with the same spirit, and reflect on how different forms of migration steer our lives, individually and collectively. We look forward to your feedback, here by email or in the comments section on the website. It also has a Instagram which people can follow for updates.
