Akshay Singh holds an MA in Mass Communication from MCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia, where he specialised in cinematography, following a BA (Hons.) in History from Sri Venkateshwara College. He moved to Mumbai in 2004 and has since worked as a cinematographer across feature films, series, and documentaries, beginning his career as an assistant on projects such as One Night with the King and Life in a Metro, before moving on to camera operator roles on Kites, Rajneeti, and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. His first independent feature as cinematographer was Turning 30! (2011), and he has since lensed the critically acclaimed Lipstick Under My Burkha (2016) and Kanpuriye (2019), as well as the series Bombay Begums (Netflix, 2021) and Modern Love: Mumbai (Amazon Prime). His documentary work includes Golden Tales from Bihar, The Leopard Rocks, and Parched: Water Wars and corporate films for Arrow, AWS, Google, Deloitte, Autodesk etc. He has a keen interest in mountaineering and the natural history of the Indian subcontinent, and is currently working on a historical compilation of archival material on Bihar.
