Mr. Shantanu Kanade graduated with a B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) degree from Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur in 2013 with a specialization in Corporate Laws and International Trade. He pursued MA (Diplomacy, Law and Business) program at Jindal School of International Affairs (2016-18) as a Savitri Jindal Scholar. Further, he received an Advanced LLM in International Dispute Settlement and Arbitration from Leiden University, where he served as Assistant Editor of the Leiden Journal of International Law.

  • Shantanu is currently teaching a course on Commercial Arbitration to postgraduate students at Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai. In 2019, he assisted with designing a course on Investment Treaty Arbitration at Utrecht University. He has delivered multiple lectures as a visiting lecturer at various law schools in India on a variety of topics within the broader field of corporate and commercial laws. He also acts as a moot court mentor to students from various law schools in India and the Netherlands. He has been associated with various moot courts, most prominently the Jessup International Law Moot Court, the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court and the FDI Moot Court Miami, as coach and adjudicator.
  • Shantanu also has three years of experience practicing as a corporate M&A lawyer, working with BMR Legal in Mumbai. During his time as a corporate lawyer, he represented clients across various industry sectors in a diversity of PE and M&A transactions. Post completing his Master’s degree at Leiden University, Shantanu worked with the international arbitration practices of two major international law firms based in Rotterdam, namely Houthoff and NautaDutilh.
  • His current research interests lie in the areas of Public International Law, International Investment Law, International Trade Law, Law of the Sea, Practice of International Courts and Tribunals, International Commercial Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
  • Outside of work, Shantanu’s interests include playing and watching various sports, especially cricket. He loves to read different kinds of books, particularly fast-paced crime fiction and autobiographies. He has also received elementary training as a vocalist in Hindustani Classical music.
