Get ready for an exciting day of learning, networking, and hands-on experiences at our Clinical Legal Education Mela being held tomorrow i.e. 18th March from 11 am to 7 pm at the Buddha Quadrangle! 🌟
The Clinics at JGLS have been working since the inception of JGLS in 2009 on community-centric projects through long-term collaborations addressing issues that arise from the needs of marginalized groups. JGLS has developed a strong ethical rigor to ensure that urgent socio-legal concerns of the community are addressed through continuous, sustained efforts. The community has been the focal point of every clinical endeavour in prioritising their interest, needs and grievances while structuring clinical projects. Through the maintenance of the utmost trust, confidentiality, and acknowledgment of the inherent power disparity between the community and clinic members, the effort is to create a mindful work environment driven towards egalitarianism.
Our clinics provide students with real-time opportunities to work with lawyers, and activists to become socially conscientious, justice-oriented legal professionals with the self-reflexivity to realise their positionality and grow in their commitment towards social justice. Since 2009, the clinics have seen participation from more than 1000 students, who have been involved in legal aid interventions, conferences, and webinars, and released publications and research projects with the aim to demystify the law for the community.
There are currently five clinics at JGLS, the Law and Marginalisation Clinic, the Child Rights Clinic, the Criminal Justice Clinic, the Environmental Law Clinic, and the Justice VR Krishna Iyer Clinic which provides more broad-based legal aid to marginalized communities in Haryana.
The Mela gives students the opportunity to:
🔍 Explore Different Clinics – Dive into the world of legal clinics, discover how they work, and see the real impact they create.
🎯 Exciting Activities – Participate in interactive sessions, games, and challenges designed to make learning fun!
🤝 Network & Collaborate – Meet faculty, volunteers, and PLVs, and find out how you can contribute to our social justice mission.
We have planned a host of exciting activities throughout the day including a poster-making competition, a movie screening and SO MUCH MORE! Please see attached the agenda for the Mela with this email for more details! 🎉
Please feel free to bring your own supplies for the poster-making and colouring activity. We will also have some supplies available at the venue! The winning posters will be displayed in the legal aid clinic room!
