Ishan Vijay graduated with a B.A. LL.B. degree from O.P. Jindal Global University, in 2022. His interest in academia arose in the 3rd and 4th year of law school where he was exposed to multiple areas of law, both national and international. He pursued an LL.M. in Human Rights Law from Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), on a Postgraduate Scholarship in Law.

He is interested in a variety of subjects, chief among them being child law, human rights, criminal law, constitutional law, and family law. During his time at QMUL he worked as a legal caseworker for the ‘Advice on Individual Rights in Europe’ (AIRE) Centre. He researched asylum and the right to have a family under the European Convention on Human Rights. He is currently working as a research assistant on a project about international child rights law. He is also interested in Jurisprudence and Sociology.

  • Research Paper on the Bombay Beggary Act, 1960 and how it impacts the Street Magicians of Kathputli Colony, Delhi. Published in the famous Subversions Journal Volume 6, 2018: http://subversions.tiss.edu/vol-6/dikshit-bhagabati/ [ The publication of the research paper on the street magicians of Delhi, was done by a team of 4, including myself. It involved a combination of hours of field research and interviews of street magicians in Delhi and guidance by respected Sociologist and Academic, Professor Mani Shekhar Singh. This project has been a 4 year effort, where besides the publication of the research paper we;
  • Presented the findings of the research paper in the 2nd Undergraduate Research Conference, 2018 which was hosted in O.P.Jindal Global University. This distinguished conference was attended by noted Sociologist Professor Dipankar Jain and had Professor J. Thomas (Tom) Cook as the Chief Guest, alongside university Vice Chancellor Professor C. Rajkumar.

1) ADVICE ON INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS IN EUROPE (AIRE) Center

  • Working as a legal case worker under supervision of famous child rights advocate, Nuala Mole.
  • Researching and preparing case briefs about EU law regarding child rights, asylum, human trafficking, and the right to privacy.
  • Drafting case notes, assisting in article writing, and attending international conferences .

2) RESEARCH ASSISTANT to Professor Heidi Viterbo on the area of ‘Child Rights and Internationa Law’

  • Researching and preparing literature reviews about articles concerning children and asylum.
  • legal notes about a child’s right to be heard in India.

3) NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION: DELHI (ONLINE)

  • Received cash prize (Rs 5000) for a research paper on Human Trafficking in India, which will be taken forward by the government of India for possible implementation
  • various seminars and informative sessions, including by RTI Activist Shailesh Gandhi, about the working of the organisations and the state of human rights in India.

4) ADVOCATE KUSHAL MOR: ONE OF THE LEADING CRIMINAL LAWYER IN  MUMBAI, June 2019 

  • Researched and prepared case briefs and short notes, which was used for ongoing cases at the Bombay High Court , on the following propositions of law: (1) Sec 468, 437, 438, 319, and 200 of CrPC which covers matters of bail, witness examinations, limitation period. (2) promise to marry, condonation of delay, SEBI judgements, Sec 446 of Companies Act, 2013 and Look Out Circular guidelines and judgements.
  • Independently drafted a legal notice in the matter of non fulfilment of promises made.

5) SENIOR ADVOCATE SATISH PARASARAN: RENOWNED ADVOCATE ACROSS     INDIA: PRACTICING IN THE SUPREME COURT OF INDIA AND MADRAS HIGH COURT ,  CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI, December 2018

  • Analysed and summarised judgements referenced in live cases at the Madras High Court, on the following propositions of law: trademarks, the Tamil Nadu government plastic ban; workmen’s dues under Section 13(9) proviso of SARFAESI Act, 2002 and Sec 529-A of Indian Companies Act 1956; property rights; and whether ex gratia payments is gratis
  • Attended and observed various proceedings Madras High Court including the Madras online pharmacies case, NCLT, Intellectual Property Appellate Board, and an Arbitration.
  • Drafted a Contempt of Court notice and a show cause notice.

6) ENFOLD PROACTIVE HEALTH TRUST, ONE OF THE LEADING ORGANISATIONS ON CHILD RIGHTS IN INDIA, PARTNERED WITH THE UNHRC (ONLINE), December 2019

  • Assigned to the project of studies on child relationships in Bihar. Contributed to the project records by analysed POCSO Act Cases from various High Courts and District courts and prepared case notes about consensual relationships between/involving children under POCSO Act and how courts treat such cases. This data was used to brief advocates who were working with the organisation on ongoing cases concerning child marriage.
  • Prepared a literature review and a detailed presentation about 4 articles talking about adolescent consent in USA and constitutional cases about child rights in South Africa for the organisation’s literature archives.
