Biography

Prof. Yukti Kumar is an Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Law School and serves as the Assistant Dean in the Office of the Vice Dean for Clinical Legal Education. She is actively engaged with the Welfare Rights and the Law Clinic – I under the Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer Centre for Legal Aid at JGLS. Her work focuses on Haryana state welfare schemes, with extensive field engagement across 19 villages in Sonipat, where the clinic assists communities in accessing government welfare entitlements.

Prof. Kumar holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in General Legal Studies and a B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) from Jindal Global Law School. During her undergraduate studies, she attended a Summer School at the University of Oxford, where she studied International Law and Global Governance. She has received numerous accolades, including merit-based scholarships, the Best University Citizenship and Public Service Award (2019), Most Promising New Student Initiative Award (2019), Institution Building Award (2020), and the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Social Service and Community Engagement (2020), among others.

During her time as a student, Prof. Kumar played a pivotal role in clinical programmes as JGU’s Student Coordinator for Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, an initiative by the Ministry of Education (formerly MHRD), Government of India. Under this programme, JGU adopted 10 villages in Sonipat, where she served as a key representative of the university. She led several impactful initiatives, including sanitation drives, legal literacy camps, and Gram Sabha engagements, significantly contributing to rural development efforts and supporting institutional assessments such as Swachhta rankings.

Prior to joining JGLS, she served as an Assistant Professor of Law at RV University, where she was a founding faculty member. During her tenure, she was recognised with the Excellent Performer Award and the Outstanding Contribution to Social Service and Community Engagement Award. She also played an instrumental role in establishing the Rotaract Club and the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Additionally, she collaborated with over 50 community-based organisations through the Centre for Legal Aid and Community Engagement, contributing to multiple social impact initiatives.

Prof. Kumar is currently pursuing a part-time Ph.D. on “Analysing the Role of Legal Aid Assistance for Undertrial Prisoners: A Focus on Bail Provisions and their Impact.” Her academic and professional interests lie in clinical legal education, community engagement, access to justice, and institution building.
