Biography

Yogita is an Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Law School, O.P. Jindal Global University and also serves as the Director of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Society at JGLS.

She completed her undergraduate legal education at North Cap University, Gurgaon, before pursuing an LL.M. in Human Rights from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore. During her time at NLSIU, she was actively engaged in several research projects at the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policies, deepening her commitment to socio-legal inquiry and rights-based approaches to justice.

Driven by a commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship, Yogita subsequently pursued an Urban Fellowship at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), Bangalore, where she engaged with the theory and practice of urban governance, spatial justice, and the lived experiences of marginalized communities in rapidly urbanizing contexts.

She went on to read for the MPhil in Criminological Research at the University of Cambridge, where her thesis examined community justice systems in India by interrogating how informal dispute resolution mechanisms operate alongside, and often in tension with, formal state institutions. This research reflects her broader scholarly investment in understanding the legitimacy, adaptability, and socio-political dimensions of non-state justice in postcolonial societies.

Her current area of research is modern alternative dispute resolution methods, examining the legitimacy of legal pluralism in India and its consequences for how ordinary people access and experience justice. Drawing on criminological frameworks, she investigates how the coexistence of formal state law and informal normative orders shapes justice outcomes for communities that remain structurally distant from institutional legal processes.
