Biography

Simran Chawdhary is a legal professional and criminology scholar specializing in criminal law, constitutional litigation, and human rights. She completed her MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Oxford, where her research focused on political imprisonment, race and gender, prisons, and the death penalty. She previously served as a Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate at the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and has worked with leading Senior Advocates, gaining extensive courtroom experience in complex criminal and constitutional matters. Her work spans riot and anti-terror laws, custodial rights, and juvenile justice reforms, including appointments as Amicus Curiae. An alumna of Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi, Simran also holds a B.A. (Hons.) in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College. She further completed a postgraduate diploma in International Humanitarian Law from NALSAR, where her research examined starvation as a weapon of war and universal criminal jurisdiction in internal armed conflicts.
