Nawneet Vibhaw is a Professor of Practice and Director of the Centre for ESG and Climate Policy Research at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS). He is an India qualified lawyer with about 17 years of professional experience in environmental advisory, environmental disputes and ESG advisory. Nawneet has been advising and representing clients in diverse environment related matters in sectors like cement, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, real estate, chemicals etc. before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, High Courts and the National Green Tribunal and has been a Partner leading the environmental law practice at top-tier Indian law firms like Khaitan & Co. and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. for more than eight years, representing clients from diverse sectors.
Nawneet received his B.A., LL.B.(Hons.) at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad and his LL.M. in Environment, Energy and Climate Change at Lewis & Clark Law School, Portland, Oregon, USA.
He has received awards and fellowships from the Belgian Science and Policy Office (BELSPO), UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI), Robert Bosch Foundation, Asian Development Bank and MoEF&CC. Nawneet has been recognised by Legal 500 as a Recommended Lawyer for Environmental Litigation in 2022. He has been recognised as one amongst the top 100 lawyers in India by Forbes in 2021. He has also been recognised as one amongst the top 40 legal professionals in India under the age of 40 in 2020 by BW Legal.
Nawneet has authored three books published by LexisNexis and chapters in international publications. Nawneet has also taught Environmental Law and Energy Law at National Law University Delhi and at Jindal Global Law School, Sonepat in the past. He has contributed columns and articles in publications like Economic Times, Financial Express, The Hindu, Fortune India, Statesman, LiveMint, Business Standard, VCCircle, DNA, Mondaq and Lexology and has been a speaker at prestigious environmental conferences in countries like USA, UK, Australia, Germany, Spain, Philippines, Belgium and India.
Nawneet has served as a member of FICCI's task force on ESG and as a member of its sub-committee on Environment in the past. He has been interviewed by BBC News several times on environmental issues along with channels like NDTV, CNN News18, DD News etc. He has also been appointed an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Law by his alma mater, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad in March 2023.
