Biography

Shilpi Bhattacharya is a Professor at Jindal Global Law School. Shilpi's research and teaching interests are primarily in competition law and more recently in the application of competition law to digital markets. 

Shilpi is a member of the Academic Society of Competition Law. She has presented her research work in various prestigious fora including the Stanford University Law School's International Junior Faculty Forum, the Yale Law School’s Doctoral Scholarship Conference and the Academic Society of Competition Law Annual Conference. Shilpi has also participated in panel discussions on competition law including the American Bar Association India Conference, BML Munjal University, Centre on Law, Regulation and Technology, Roundtable on Digital Competition Bill, Maharashtra National Law University, National Virtual Consultation Workshop on Building a Balanced Framework for India’s Digital Competition Law and the GW Competition and Innovation Lab's event titled India’s Competition and Innovation Forum.

In addition to publishing in this field, Shilpi was invited to numerous podcasts to discuss Indian competition law in digital markets including the Digital Markets Research Hub, Shaping Competition in the Digital Age podcast, Binary Agora, Tech Reg Forum and Centre for Competition Law and Economics virtual forum.

Shilpi has written opinion pieces on competition law and rare disease advocacy issues for publications like Bar and Bench, The Print, The Hindu, Indian Express, Outlook, The Quint and Assocham Corporate and Regulatory Affairs e-bulletin. Her piece also appeared in Pro-market, a popular digital publication of the Chicago University's Booth School of Business. 

She received the Olin Graduate Fellowship in Law and Economics to complete her LL.M. degree from the University of Virginia in 2006-07. She was admitted to the New York bar and practiced US Securities Regulation in the British law firm, Linklaters from 2007-2009. 

Subsequently, she received the Erasmus Mundus Fellowship to complete her Ph.D. in competition law, titled 'Competition Law and the Bounded Rationality of Firms' from Erasmus University Rotterdam as part of the European Doctorate in Law and Economics from 2012 to 2016.
