Biography

Dr. Samrat Sinha is Professor at Jindal Global Law School, O.P. Jindal Global University. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Delaware, an M.A. in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University, and a B.A. (Honors) in History from the University of Delhi. Prior to joining JGU, he served as Assistant Professor at the Jamsetji Tata Centre for Disaster Management (JTCDM), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai.

Dr. Sinha's research focuses on armed conflict, humanitarian action, health inequities, displacement, and borderland studies in South Asia. He is the author and co-editor of three books: Health Inequities in Conflict-Affected Areas: Armed Violence, Survival and Post-Conflict Recovery in the Indo-Bhutan Borderlands (Springer Nature, 2021, with Jennifer Liang); Violence, Statistics, and the Politics of Accounting for the Dead (Springer, 2016, co-edited with Marc-Antoine Pérouse de Montclos and Elizabeth Minor); and Ethnic Conflict in Assam: Garo-Rabha Ethnic Violence (DVS Publishers, 2014, with Sunny Borgohain).

Most recently, he served as Principal Investigator of a Chemonics-funded study under the XCEPT (Cross-Border Conflict: Evidence, Policy and Trends) programme examining the impact of violence and displacement on access to healthcare for women and children along the Indo–Myanmar border. He has also led and contributed to research and policy initiatives on conflict, humanitarian response, child welfare, disaster risk reduction, and early warning systems across Northeast India.

His academic and public writing has appeared in Democracy and Security, PLOS Currents Disasters, Indian Journal of Medical Ethics, The Hindu, The Wire, Nagaland Post, and The Quint. In 2016, he received the Press Institute of India–ICRC Award for Humanitarian Reporting.
