Biography

Dr. Aqa Raza completed his B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.M. from the Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh. He was awarded the University Gold Medal for securing First Position in the Order of Merit in the LL.M. Examination. He submitted his LL.M. Dissertation on the topic “Labour-Desert and/or Utilitarian Underpinning(s) of Intellectual Property: Approach of the Supreme Court of India”. He completed his Ph.D. in Constitutional Law on the topic “Separation of Powers under the Indian Constitution in Theory and Practice: A Critical Study” from the National Law Institute University, Bhopal. He has cleared the UGC-NET examination. During his studies at AMU, he was awarded the “AMU Merit Scholarship” and “Professor Hafeezur Rahman Merit Scholarship”. At AMU, he served as Vice President of the AMU Law Society and as Editor-in-Chief of the Aligarh Law Society Review. 

He joined Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) initially as a Teaching and Research for Intellectual Pursuit (TRIP) Fellow & Academic Tutor and is presently working as Assistant Professor of Law at JGLS. Before joining JGLS, he worked as an Assistant Professor of Law at Amity University, Chhattisgarh, and Jagran Lakecity University, Bhopal. He has more than eight years of teaching and research experience and has published over forty-three articles in reputed national and international journals, including twenty-three articles in Scopus- and Web of Science (WoS)-indexed journals. 

He was invited by the World Intellectual Property Organization and the World Trade Organization to attend the virtual 17th WIPO-WTO Colloquium for Teachers of Intellectual Property in 2021. His co-authored paper titled “COVID-19 Pandemic: Congenital Fluidity of Proposal for Waiver of IP Rights and the Road Ahead” was published in the 2020 Special Edition of the WIPO-WTO Colloquium Papers. He also participated in the ESDR International Residential Exchange Program at Kathmandu School of Law, Nepal in 2017. Besides teaching, he worked on the projects of the Government of Madhya Pradesh (GoMP) and prepared the draft of the “Madhya Pradesh Resident Welfare Association Policy, 2020” for the government. He has reviewed statutes and statutory drafts and drafted several policy and scheme documents for GoMP, including the “Madhya Pradesh Livelihood and Welfare Scheme for Inter-State Migrant Workers, 2020” and the “Madhya Pradesh Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Scheme, 2020”, which were later brought into effect by the government.

His main area of research and teaching includes Constitutional Law and Intellectual Property Rights. He loves reading and analyzing judgements of the courts.
