Biography

Professor Arjya B. Majumdar trained as a lawyer at the National University of Juridical Sciences, Calcutta and Tulane University, USA. He spent the initial part of his career as a corporate lawyer, advising large corporations on matters relating to mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, foreign investments into India, joint ventures and private equity. He also advised the Government of India in their disinvestment program. He turned to academia in 2013, joining O.P. Jindal Global University. 

At JGU, he continues to teach corporate and commercial law, but through the last eleven years, he has established himself as an innovative and resourceful higher education administrator, creating and implementing academic, benchmarking and admissions policies for one of India’s top private universities. As Assistant Dean (Academic Affairs) he was responsible for designing, updating and implementing the course curriculum and all matters relating to academic affairs including policies on programme and curriculum structuring and delivery, attendance, academic discipline, examinations, promotion, graduation and student mobility programmes at the Jindal Global Law School. Under his leadership, JGU was ranked as India’s No. 1 Private University and India’s No 1. Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities University in the QS World University Rankings in 2020, 2021 and 2022 (World rank 651-700). 

In terms of his research, Professor Majumdar works on M&A, business ethics, CSR and ESG. He has widely published in SCOPUS indexed journals and some of his work is essential reading for corporate law courses across India.
