Biography

Arindum Nayak is an Associate Professor and Associate Director at the Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law and Regulation (Jindal Global Law School). His research and teaching lie at the intersection of law, finance, technology and public policy, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, financial regulation, digital markets and regulatory technology. 

Prior to joining academia, Arindum worked with the Regulatory Genome Project (RegGenome) by the University of Cambridge's Centre for Alternative Finance, where he contributed to the development of AI-driven regulatory intelligence systems designed to digitise and analyse financial and technology regulations across jurisdictions. He led research on the data protection and capital markets taxonomies and worked with international regulatory institutions including the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), and the Saudi Arabia Capital Markets Authority (CMA) to support regulatory compliance, digital risk management, and policy innovation.

Earlier, he practised as a corporate lawyer with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, where he advised on financing transactions, infrastructure development, and regulatory policy projects for clients including the International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group), Amazon Web Services, Blackstone, State Bank of India and several public sector institutions. His work included policy advisory on public-private partnerships in healthcare infrastructure and digital infrastructure with the Government of Maharashtra and Government of Odisha.
 
Arindum holds a Master’s in Law and Finance from the University of Oxford, where he was a Supperstone Scholar, recipient of the Faculty of Law Prize in Regulation and awarded the Trappes Exhibition by Lincoln College in recognition of academic excellence. During his time at Oxford, he served as Vice-President of the Oxford LegalTech Society and a Member of the Oxford Union. 

He completed his B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata, as an Aditya Birla Scholar, where he served as President of the Student Association, Associate Editor of the NUJS Law Review and Coordinator of TEDxNUJS. 
He has also undertaken executive and professional development programmes in finance, digital innovation, and international governance from the Indian School of Business (ISB), European Institute of Innovation and Technology and the University of Geneva. 

Alongside his academic work, he actively contributes to policy consultations and interdisciplinary research initiatives with government, regulatory bodies, international organisations, industry, and civil society on issues relating to financial regulation and technology policy. He is also the founder of the Just Juvenile Foundation, a non-profit organisation working to improve educational opportunities and life outcomes for marginalised children.
