Biography

Ahana Bag is a legal researcher and academic whose research sits at the intersection of legal history, colonialism, and legal theory, tracing how law has both shaped and been shaped by structures of empire. She holds an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge, an LL.M. in Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Law from O.P. Jindal Global University, and a B.A. LL.B. from the University of Calcutta.

Her academic interests span jurisprudence, the history and theory of international law, critical legal studies, decolonial thought, and legal history. Across these fields, her work seeks to unsettle law's claims to neutrality by situating legal doctrine and institutions within the longer histories of colonialism and power. Building on her first LL.M., she extends this critical lens to questions of technology, artificial intelligence, and data protection, examining how contemporary legal and technological regimes reproduce enduring patterns of profiling, surveillance, exclusion, and marginalisation.

Previously, Ahana served as Assistant Director at the Centre for Justice, Law and Society (CJLS), where her research and advocacy focused on access to justice, reproductive rights, and trans rights. At the University of Cambridge, she has also contributed to the Cambridge Pro Bono Project's human rights work. Her professional experience further includes working as an Executive in Financial Advisory at Deloitte India, followed by legal practice in data protection and POSH compliance at S.S. Rana & Co.
