Biography

Dr. Somesh Dutta is an Associate Professor at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS). He specializes in international dispute resolution with a particular focus on international commercial and investment treaty arbitration, and public international law including the practice of international courts and tribunals.

Dr. Dutta received a Doctor of Law (Ph.D.) from the University of Luxembourg. He also holds a Master of Advanced Studies (LL.M.) in International Dispute Settlement from the Geneva University Law School & Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Switzerland, and a Bachelor of Arts & Law (B.A., LL.B. Hons.) with Specialization in Energy Laws from the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, India.

Before joining the JGLS team, Dr. Dutta worked with the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European & Regulatory Procedural Law (now Luxembourg Centre for European Law), and with the international arbitration and public international law practice of Shearman & Sterling LLP in Paris (now A&O Shearman). Dr. Dutta also held the position of Associate Editor for the Max Planck Encyclopedia of International Procedural Law published in collaboration with Oxford University Press. His working experience includes training at the International Court of Justice and the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

Dr. Dutta, at the age of 22, was awarded Honors in International Law from the Xiamen Academy of International Law, China. He was also awarded a scholarship from the Hague Academy of International Law, The Netherlands. International and national publishers have published his scholarly contributions.
