Dr. Chakravarty teaches law at JGLS, focusing particularly on foreign investment, arbitration law, banking and financial regulation . He holds a PhD in Law (with distinction) from the University of Turin (2021) which was fully funded by a Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions Grant from the European Union. Along with his doctoral research, Dr. Chakravarty worked as an Early Stage Researcher at the University of Turin (2017-2020).
Dr. Chakravarty graduated with a BA LL.B. (Hons.) in Law from the National Law Institute University, Bhopal in 2015 followed by a Master of Laws in International Trade Law, Contracts and Dispute Resolution from the University of Turin in 2016, graduating with distinction. His Master’s thesis on India’s Model BIT programme was published as a chapter in the Yearbook on International Investment Law and Policy 2017 (Oxford University Press 2019). He is qualified to legal practice in India and previously worked as an advocate in New Delhi with a focus on commercial litigation, arbitration and consumer law. He has served as research assistant to Justice (Dr.) MK Sharma, former judge at the Supreme Court of India.
Dr. Chakravarty has presented his research at fora across Europe and Asia, including the University of Birmingham, Xi’an Jiatong University, NUS Singapore and the Graduate Institute, Geneva. His research has addressed legal and policy issues in international investment. trade and financial regulation. His research has been published in leading journals, yearbooks and working paper series.
