Sonipat, October 18, 2019: The Centre for Victimology & Psychological Studies (CVPS), under the aegis of the Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences (JIBS) will organise the 8th International Conference on Victim Assistance on 21st and 22nd October 2019 at the O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) campus in Sonipat, Haryana.
The main theme of the 2-day Conference is Evolving Perspective in Victimology and the various sessions will envisage different aspects of victimology by academicians, government officials, lawyers, social workers, policy makers and students from around the world.
The seminar is being hosted by JIBS and JGU for the third time in a row. Professor Dr. Sanjeev P. Sahni, Principal Director, JIBS highlighted the significance of the conference, “The International Conference on Victim Assistance has provided a crucial platform over the years internationally for intellectual and research-based discussion in the field of victimology. Victim assistance is key in any criminal justice system. It is a high time that judiciary acknowledges victim assistance its due right and legislature take the onus to enforce a central legislature on victim assistance in India and obligate the legislation to be ratified and replicated in every state of India.”
The conference will be inaugurated by Mr Ravi Nair, Executive Director of South Asian Human Rights Documentation Centre (SAHRDC). Dignitaries present at the conference session will be Mr Pankaj Kumar Singh, IPS, Additional Director General of Police, Rajasthan Police, Dr. G.K. Goswami, Joint Director, CBI, New Delhi, Dr. P.M. Nair, IPS (Retd) among many others.
The delegates and presenters of the conference are affiliated to various national and international organisations and universities varying from professionals, academicians and students involved in creating a platform for discussion on victimology globally.
Victims of crime may suffer from physical, mental, emotional and financial harm, from which some may never recover. Victim assistance as a field of practice and study directs towards expanding knowledge of criminal victimisation and applying this knowledge to improve the condition of both individuals and society.

Centre for Victimology and Psychological Studies (CVPS) is a research centre that studies various aspects of victim and offender psychology and aims to produce constructive research towards holistic rehabilitation of victims. The Centre also works on understanding and incorporating the role of forensic science to administer better legal help and justice to victims.
