O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) will be participating in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Universities Summit to be held in partnership with Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) during 5-7 February 2018 in Shenzhen, China. JGU delegation will comprise of Vice Chancellor JGU, Professor(Dr) Raj Kumar; Professor Sanjeev P. Sahni, Principal Director JIBS; Professor Arjya Majumdar, Professor Wenjuan Zhang and Ms. Pragnya Paramita Mohanty.
It is noteworthy to mention that JGU happens to be the only Indian university represented in this Global academic summit. JGU’s Founding Vice Chancellor Professor(Dr) C Raj Kumar has been invited to speak at this Summit to share the story of JGU in the larger context of India’s aspirations to build world class universities.
Professor (Dr) Raj Kumar is addressing a panel where he is going to deliberate upon a panel on “Breaking boundaries – Research universities in the 21st century” that will discuss the critical role of university research in the growth of the knowledge economy, and the importance of internationalisation strategies in eliminating regional and global barriers to collaboration.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor (Dr) Raj Kumar said, “The summit will give us a chance to share perspectives from JGU’s own institutional experiences in the Indian context, the situated challenges of the Asian context, and evolving strategies for internationalisation of universities in emerging economies. Indian Universities needs to overcome the challenge of providing access to high quality education for a large number of young people while promoting aspirations to build institutions of global excellence”.
This year’s summit is being organised around the theme “Connecting Cities, Changing the World: Research Universities Building Asia”. The summit will focus on themes including universities and cities – building alliances, defining regions; global research and education – trends, opportunities and challenges; university alliances – research output defining regional strength; national innovation – universities as catalysts and connectors; the power of partnership: what global research universities bring to the innovation economy; fourth industrial revolution and higher education – cultivating entrepreneurship, leading the future; and bridging divides – research universities in the global knowledge economy. The summit will bring together university leaders, administrators, educators, thought leaders, Nobel laureates, and representatives of educational service firms from across the world.
This summit for JGU becomes a platform to understand the key challenges that Indian universities face as they prepare to work towards becoming world class universities. It will be a huge opportunity for JGU to position our university for the future in relation to this global ranking of universities and international benchmarking of academic institutions.
