As university educators, we continue to grapple with the difficult terrain of use of AI in our classrooms, divided between optimistic predictions about the role of AI in higher education and a great deal of handwringing about the implications of AI for learning, teachers and the university.
While this calls for an examination of emerging perspectives and research on the consequences of AI use on the learning process and on student writing/ perceptions, we believe that these conversations cannot be divorced from engaging with the political and environmental consequences of AI use.
In the hope that we might find political and practical coherence with regards to our relationship with AI in the classroom, we have proposed the two-part faculty reading group, to be held on April 13 and April 27, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. respectively
