At O.P. Jindal Global University, language learning and critical writing skills occupy a central place in our vision of global education. The Office of English and Foreign Languages (OEFL) plays a vital role in equipping students with linguistic competence, cultural sensitivity, and communicative confidence-skills that are indispensable in today’s interconnected world. Three centres constitute the OEFL: Centre for Foreign Languages, Centre for Writing Studies and English Language Centre.
OEFL’s programmes are designed not merely to teach languages, reading and writing as academic subjects, but to cultivate global citizens who can think critically, engage across cultures, and participate meaningfully in international academic, professional, and social contexts. Through structured language pathways, innovative pedagogy, and an emphasis on real-world communication, OEFL enables students from all schools of the University to enhance their academic experience and broaden their global outlook. OEFL also encourages students to build critical self-expression through a dialogic workshop pedagogy in its academic reading and writing courses.
Aligned with JGU’s mission to promote global curriculum, global research, and global engagement, OEFL actively fosters critical thinking, multilingualism and intercultural dialogue. The Office works closely with academic schools, research centres, and international partners to ensure that learning at JGU remains dynamic, relevant, and future-oriented.
As Dean of Academic Governance & Student Life, I firmly believe that foreign language education, communication skills and academic writing are integral to holistic student development. OEFL exemplifies this philosophy by creating inclusive learning environments that encourage curiosity, cultural exchange, and intellectual growth. I am confident that OEFL will continue to strengthen JGU’s global academic ecosystem and contribute meaningfully to the University’s pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning.
