Biography

Dr. Shruti Jain is a distinguished scholar, educator, and researcher specializing in German Studies, bridging its twin domains—literature and philosophy on one hand, and foreign language education on the other. She holds a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, where her research explored the reception of Nietzsche in India. She has also undergone teacher training at the Goethe Institutes in Pune, Berlin, and Munich, refining her expertise in language pedagogy and intercultural teaching.

A recipient of prestigious scholarships, including funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for research at Humboldt University, Berlin, Dr. Jain has made significant contributions to the intersection of literature and philosophy. She has participated in international Nietzsche conferences, including those organized by the Nietzsche Gesellschaft in Naumburg, and was invited to speak at the 2024 Nietzsches Futures conference in Weimar, hosted by the prestigious Kolleg Friedrich Nietzsche of the Weimar Stiftung.

In 2023, she was awarded the coveted International Association of Teachers of German (IDV) scholarship for DACH: Lehrexpertise im Kontext von Plurizentrik und kulturbasiertem Lernen, an in-service training program for experienced German language educators, funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education (BMBWF), Goethe-Institut, and Movetia (Switzerland). Her contributions to teacher education include co-authoring the Diploma in Teaching German as a Foreign Language (DTG) for Indira Gandhi National Open University, developed with the Goethe-Institut and the University of Vienna. She regularly conducts workshops for German language educators.

Dr. Jain is an editorial team member and peer reviewer for a leading international journal in the humanities and social sciences. Her publications span Nietzschean philosophy, its reception in India, gender studies, environmental education, multilingualism, and language policy. She is also a member of the Goethe Society of India and the Indian German Teachers’ Association (InDaF).

Joining JGU in 2018 as the founding faculty of German, she has played a key role in developing the German section and has made significant contributions to institution building through her work in teaching, research, and cultural engagement.
