Dr Shubhasree Bhattacharyya is an Academic and Artistic Researcher and is currently Associate Professor at the Centre for Writing Studies, O.P. Jindal Global University. Her research interests encompass Writing Studies, Urban Soundscapes, Sound Studies, and Pedagogy. Shubhasree has 15 plus years of professional experience in Higher Education. In her capacity as a Nippon Foundation Fellow, she conducted ethnographic and archival research as part of her doctoral dissertation: Rhythms at Work, Labour, Terrioriality, and Sound Spaces in Kolkata. During her PhD years she ideated and co-created the UGC UPE multimedia website project: “Soundscapes of Kolkata” and created a documentary film project on work song traditions in India in collaboration with the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Shubhasree is the first academic researcher in India to have initiated a discursive-artistic sonic pedagogy in the Indian context from a comparative perspectival framework. Prior to joining OPJGU, Shubhasree has worked with University of Delhi, Shiv Nadar University, and Eenadu Journalism School and Ramoji Krian Universe at Ramoji Film City. As a researcher Shubhasree has been associated with premiere institutions: Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Jadavpur University, India Foundation for the Arts, Archives and Research Centre for Ethnomusicology, American Institute of Indian Studies, Howard University, and York University. She is an alumnus and academic community member with the Nippon Foundation Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund Global Fellows Network. At OPJGU, her taught courses have ranged from the conceptual to the practical application-based training courses in writing studies and artistic research. Shubhasree takes special interest in thought leadership and academic initiatives that are relevant and impactful to the contemporary needs of students and other advanced learners. To that effect, Shubhasree integrates subjects/disciplines in a multidisciplinary environment of reflective and grounded pedagogy.
