Biography

Dr. Usama Ghayas Syed is a dedicated researcher and educator specializing in Positive Psychology and Educational Psychology. He is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Jindal School of Psychology & Counselling, O. P. Jindal Global University. He recently received his doctoral degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. His Ph.D. research investigated the role of strength-based parenting (SBP) in fostering academic success and well-being among Indian adolescents. His work offers insights into how strength-based parenting practices can support youth development. He used advanced statistical techniques in his research, including Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), Multi-Group Confirmatory Factor Analysis (MGCFA), and the Actor-Partner Interdependence Mediation Model (APIMeM) within a Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) framework.

His research has been published in the journals such as Scientific Reports and Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment. He has also presented his findings at national and international conferences, where he received recognition for his work on a multidimensional model of student success. Additionally, his research has been supported by prestigious fellowships, including the Australia India Research Students (AIRS) Fellowship at the Centre for Wellbeing Science, University of Melbourne, Australia, and the Early Career Research Fellowship from the National Data Innovation Centre (NDIC), National Council of Applied Economic Research, India.

His work seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of well-being and academic success across different life domains and populations. Before pursuing his Ph.D., he gained extensive experience as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) at the Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR) in New Delhi, where he contributed to projects related to psychological assessments for over a year and a half. His time at DIPR honed his skills in data analysis and psychometric evaluations, which he continues to apply in his current work.
