Biography

Dr. George is currently an Assistant Professor at the Jindal School of Psychology & Counselling. She received her doctoral degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad in Health and Medical Psychology. Through her PhD thesis, she explored the attitudes towards and experiences of dating and practicing safe sex among young adults living in urban cities in India. Given that her PhD work lies at the intersection of health psychology, social psychology, and relationship science, she is keen on bringing in an interdisciplinary approach to her teaching and research.

She was the third rank holder at the University of Kerala for the Master of Arts in Psychology. She has qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) for Assistant Professorship and the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), awarded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for undertaking her PhD work. Following her Master’s, she has worked as a psychologist, dealing with children with intellectual and learning disabilities, a school counsellor and an Assistant Professor in Psychology in Kerala.

Research Experience

 

Dr. George has worked as a Junior Research Fellow for a project titled “Early identification & intervention in developmental dyscalculia”, funded by the Department of Science & Technology (DST). She has organized and conducted workshops on qualitative research methods at IIT Hyderabad for research interns. She has carried out a project on “The role of empathy in knowledge, attitude, and practice of organ donation in India”. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed, Scopus-indexed journals.

During her doctoral years, Dr. George worked as a Teaching Assistant and had the opportunity to teach introductory and core courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels at IIT Hyderabad. Following her Master’s, she had worked as an Assistant Professor at Farook College, Kerala, teaching general psychology, social psychology, and research methodology courses for postgraduate and undergraduate students.
