Biography

Dr. Mehak Sikand is an educator and clinical psychologist whose work is firmly grounded in the scientist-practitioner model, which informs both her clinical practice and research endeavours. Upon the completion of Bachelors’ and Masters’ degrees in Psychology, she pursued an M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. For her doctoral research, she was awarded the Junior and Senior Research Fellowship from 2016 to 2021 by the University Grants Commission.

In her teaching, Dr. Sikand maintains a strong belief in the bi-directional nature of learning. She values engaging in discussions with students, as these interactions facilitate the contextualization of course content.

Dr Sikand’s main areas of research interest are psychotherapy process, training, and supervision; community mental health; dimensions and presentations of personality; adult attachment and interpersonal relationships; and mentalization. In addition to her own research, Dr. Sikand serves as a research advisor for students, fostering a spirit of inquiry and exploration within her students.

In her clinical work, building a strong alliance is at the heart of her practice. She primarily works with adults and adopts an eclectic approach to tailor therapeutic approaches to each individual's unique needs.
