Dr. Deepali Taneja

Dr. Deepali Taneja is an Associate Professor at the Jindal School of Psychology and Counselling at O. P. Jindal Global University. She has over a decade long experience in the autism community, and is an expert in the area of autism and other disabilities. Her professional journey of over 10-year includes heading research, trainings and well as communications for the National Centre for Autism in India, Action for Autism. She also has rich clinical experience in the field of autism, including assessments, psychotherapy as well as counselling individuals with autism and their families. Her academic journey began with an Assistant Professor position at G D Goenka University, where she was teaching courses to B.A, M.A as well as Ph.D students.

Dr. Deepali Taneja has a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Delhi. As a part of her doctoral research, she has undertaken a research on peer mediated sibling support group, a one of a kind intervention in India. Her research is one of the firsts in India focussing on understanding the needs of typically developing siblings of Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Prior to her Ph.D., she completed her Masters and Bachelors in Psychology with an outstanding performance from the University of Delhi, and has also been awarded University Gold Medal.

Dr. Deepali Taneja has a decade long clinical experience in the field of disability. Since her masters in 2010, she has been involved with the National Center for Autism, and has been conducting assessment for people across the spectrum of abilities and age. She has also been conducting group and individual counselling sessions for adults with autism, as well as parents and siblings of individuals with autism. She has also undertaken psychotherapy for various concerns, including relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, stress management etc. for adults on the autism spectrum.

Recently, she is been responsible for Mental Health initiative for children in Government school pan India. She is actively involved in creating a curriculum for increasing mental health awareness amongst school teachers, as well as training counsellors for initiatives to improve mental health wellbeing of school going students.

Dr. Deepali Taneja has led a range of international and national research studies, some of which include

• Understanding Mental Health needs of children studying in Government schools in India
• Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Sibling-Mediated Intervention Study
• Development of computer assisted intervention for young children with autism
• A range of studies focused on translation, cultural adaptation and validation of autism specific screening/diagnostic tools for toddlers and adults in India. Some of these include ADOS, Autism Quotient, Social Communication Questionnaire, Modified Checklist for Toddlers – Revised), Ritvo Autism-Asperger’s Diagnostic Scale, and Ten Questions
• An evaluation of a group-based parent training model for young children with autism in a low-resource setting
• First study on adults with autism and their families to understand their past journey and current needs
• Understanding needs of and development of a sibling support model for typically developing siblings of Individuals with autism
• Epidemiological study to study the prevalence of disabilities in India

Dr. Deepali Taneja has been involved in teaching for over a decade now. She began her teaching experience by teaching psychology and learning related courses to students enrolled in B.Ed. (Special Education) and D.Ed. (Special Education). After completing her doctoral, she joined G.D. Goenka University where she has taught a variety of courses including, Personality, Physiological Psychology, Statistics, Research Methods, Cognitive Psychology etc. to students enrolled in B.A., M.A. as well as Ph.D. in Psychology.
