Biography

A post-graduate in filmmaking from Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata, Tuhinabha Majumdar is a film director, writer, editor, and film educator working in the film and television industry for around thirty years.

Tuhinabha has received two National Awards for his long documentary ‘Aamaar Katha’, Golden Conch for ‘Midnight Bioscope’ at MIIF for the Best Fiction film under 70 minutes and the Best Film of the Festival, and the IDPA Silver trophy for the second-best documentary film titled ‘City Within the City’.

Tuhinabha is engaged in cinema teaching for more than twelve years. A former Professor and HOD of the department of Direction and Screenplay Writing at the premier film school of Asia, the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune besides being the HOD and Associate Professor of Direction and Screenplay writing at School of Film and Theatre (SFT) MIT University, Pune. He has conducted workshops in documentary filmmaking, screenplay writing, film direction, film history, film appreciation and editing at various films schools and universities like SRFTI, Jadavpur University, University of Allahabad, St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata etc.

Has also worked in television channels in Kolkata as Programming Head. Tuhinabha has been invited to many documentary film seminars and have served as member of jury in non-fiction category for Indian Panorama, IFFI in 2017 and other film festivals.

Tuhinabha’s works have been showcased in nay National and International Film Festivals.

As a film practitioner his primary engagement is in finding out a film language, a form which resides ‘in between fiction and non-fiction’, in a word ‘a hybrid form of cinema’ where the so-called rigid forms of documentary and fiction cinema are merged every now and then.
