Dr. Ambreen Agha is Associate Professor, O.P. Jindal Global (Institution of Eminence Deemed To Be University). Before joining the University, she worked as a Research Fellow at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), New Delhi. At the Council, she was engaged in research on religion and conflict, particularly conflict in Afghanistan.

She received her Ph.D. from Centre for Political Studies (CPS), School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. In her Ph.D she worked on the larger theme of gender and Islam with emphasis on female participation in Islamic revivalist movements. It was a case study of women in Tablighi Jama’at, a transnational Islamic revivalist movement. She completed her M.Phil from the same centre in JNU on Islam and Terrorism, documenting and analysing the responses of the Ulema – the religious clerics.  She holds a Masters Degree from CPS, JNU.

During her Ph.D years, Dr. Agha worked as a Research Associate at the Institute for Conflict Management (South Asia Terrorism Portal), New Delhi, where her area of research was religious violence and extremism in Pakistan.

Given the research experience that she holds on Islam, gender, foreign policy and conflict, she has extensively written on related issues in national and international journals as well as various online magazines and media portals like FirspostDaily OHimal South Asian, Outlook and others. Her vast research experience converges on Islam – as a faith and as a religious institution – manifested in various forms.
