Biography

Dr. Ambreen Agha’s is a scholar with research interests in the fields of on comparative studies on Muslim Societies, identity politics, gender and religion. In her research, she is exploring and understanding the role of women in religious revivalist movements and how gender is mobilised in nationalist politics. She received her Ph.D. from Centre for Political Studies (CPS), Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi), and holds Masters’ degree in Political Science from CPS, JNU. Her research and book essays have appeared in Economic and Political Weekly, Contemporary South Asia, India Quarterly and others. She writes columns on politics and religion in national and international media, The Indian Express, The Hindu, The Wire, Outlook, TRT World, and Himal South Asian among others. 

Prior to joining Jindal, Dr. Agha was Research Fellow at Indian Council of World Affairs, New Delhi. Before that, she worked as Research Associate at Institute for Conflict Management, New Delhi, where her area of research was political violence and religious extremism in Pakistan.
