Prof. Tarun Dhingra is Professor-Strategic Management and Vice Dean at the Jindal School of Banking & Finance (JSBF), O.P. Jindal Global University, an Institution of Eminence recognised by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. An ardent scholar and educator in Strategic Management, he brings approximately 26 years of multifaceted experience spanning higher education teaching, research, academic administration, and three years of corporate experience.
Over the course of his academic career, Prof. Dhingra has held leadership and faculty positions at several reputed institutions, including Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida, and the School of Business (SoB), UPES, Dehradun. He has also served as a Visiting Professor at International Management Institute (IMI), New Delhi; FORE School of Management, New Delhi; L. M. Thapar University, Patiala; GLA University, Mathura; and XLRI, Jhajjar. He completed his doctoral research as a prestigious ICSSR Doctoral Fellow at MNNIT, Prayagraj.
Prior to joining JSBF, Prof. Dhingra served as Dean – Academics and Professor of Strategic Management, and as Pan Area Chair – General Management & Strategy, at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida. In these leadership roles, he was closely involved in academic planning, programme delivery, quality assurance, faculty coordination, and monitoring of academic standards.
At UPES, Dehradun, Prof. Dhingra served as Professor of Strategic Management and Associate Dean – Research in the School of Business. He also headed the Department of Strategic Management. His responsibilities included leading a large faculty group, strengthening the research ecosystem, promoting funded and non-funded research, and facilitating institutional academic initiatives.
Prof. Dhingra has taught Strategic Management and related subjects for more than two and a half decades, including Strategic Management, Strategist’s Toolkit for Business Problem Solving, Mergers & Acquisitions Strategies, Economics of Strategy, Managing Strategic Transformation, international business strategy. His teaching philosophy emphasises a multi-method, application-oriented pedagogy, integrating carefully selected cases, live projects, strategic frameworks, organisational theories, and contemporary business challenges to enable students to analyse complex situations and develop strategic solutions. He has also taught Introduction to Philosophy as a liberal arts course for MBA & BBA students.
His academic leadership experience includes significant contributions to academic administration, accreditation, curriculum design, course development, academic quality enhancement, research promotion, and institutional quality assurance. He has been actively involved in accreditation initiatives including AACSB, NBA, NAAC and IACBE, and has chaired several committees related to teaching, research, accreditation, and student affairs.
Prof. Dhingra has supervised thirteen doctoral theses that have been successfully awarded. He has co-authored more than 80 research articles, book chapters, cases, and conference papers, with publications and academic contributions indexed in Web of Science, Scopus, SSCI, ABS, and ABDC, including A and A* ranked outlets. His research collaborations have involved more than 34 co-authors. He has received the Best Paper Award on five occasions at prestigious academic platforms, including IIM Ahmedabad, IISc Bangalore, IIT Roorkee, K. J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research, Mumbai, and SCMS Cochin.
Beyond conventional academic teaching, Prof. Dhingra has extensive experience in executive education. He has conducted programmes in Strategic Management and Research Methodology for the Certified Petroleum Manager (CPM) and MBA programmes, reaching more than 2,200 managers across over 50 man-days for leading energy-sector organisations, including OIL, GSEB, IOC, BPCL, and HPCL.
He is a regular resource person for UGC Refresher Courses, Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs), Management Development Programmes (MDPs), and academic conferences, and has served as Convener of several FDPs and Programme Director for MDPs.
His academic and research interests encompass Strategic Management, International Strategy, Renewable Energy, Outcome-Based Contracts, Servitisation, Business Ecosystems, and Organisational Theory, with a continuing focus on connecting rigorous academic thinking with contemporary business practice.
