Prof. (Dr.) Indranath Gupta

Indranath Gupta is a Professor at JGLS. He also serves as Assistant Director, Centre for Postgraduate Legal Studies and Assistant Director, Centre for Intellectual Property and Technology Law and Co-Director Jindal Initiative on Research in IP and Competition (JIRICO) at JGLS. His areas of interest include information technology law, copyright law and database rights, data protection and developments at the interface of IP and Competition Law. He holds an LLB degree from Calcutta University, an LLM degree from the University of Aberdeen, an LLM (Research) degree in Computer Law from the University of East Anglia and a PhD in the area of European Database Directive from Brunel University, London.

Indranath has published in reputed international journals, and has worked on several prestigious research projects, including a project worth nearly 1.5 million Euros examining the impact of counterfeiting, organised by a consortium of leading European universities and funded by the European Commission. Indranath has also presented papers at various conferences in Europe. Prior to joining JGLS, Indranath practiced at the Calcutta High Court and taught at Calcutta University, and at Brunel University, while pursuing his PhD.
