We are excited to invite you to the launch of the Phase I Report by Grassroots Action Program (GAP) on April 5, 2025. This event is an important platform for us to disseminate and discuss the findings of the baseline household survey conducted by GAP, in an urban resettled slum - Bawana JJ colony, Delhi (just 30 minutes from JGU).
About GAP
GAP is an initiative taken by the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies (IDEAS) to expand the scope of knowledge and learning beyond our university, fostering connections and co-learning with the community -proximate to our campus location (in Haryana and National Capital Region).
The main aim of GAP is to inform policy discussions by relying on primary data collected from within the marginalised grassroots communities and engage in collaborative action-oriented research; and ultimately inform the policy discourse to empower the grassroots communities.
About the Report
As part of its engagement, GAP conducted a baseline household survey to understand the existing socio-economic and demographic characteristics of the Bawana JJ Colony community in Delhi, with a specific focus on the education characteristics of children and youth in the community. The survey was done in collaboration with Navjyoti India Foundation - the civil society organisation that has been working with the community for more than 20 years, and our team of student associates from JGU.
The report is the culmination of the household survey and shares in detail all the learning and findings that came as a result of the household survey, and also highlighting the processes involved throughout this engagement.
The report launch event will feature a special address and an insightful panel discussion on the report, and an interactive Q&A session where we will discuss themes of Urban Spatiality, Marginalities and the access to resources when it comes to Urban Peripheries like the Bawana JJ colony.
Details of the programme and our guest speakers has been attached herewith.
