The Office of Interdisciplinary Studies (IDEAS) has announced the launch of a new centre, Data Insights at IDEAS.  The centre is committed to building a vibrant ecosystem of data-centric research, teaching, and learning.

Data Insights at IDEAS will serve as a hub for a range of activities, including:

  • Research & Writing: Producing data-driven articles, blog posts, and op-eds, including real-time analysis of new data releases, and thematic explorations related to various parameters of socio-economic development.
  • Capacity Building: Offering guidance, mentorship, and hands-on training to students on data analysis and usage, particularly through the IDEASx platform.
  • Data Curation: Developing and maintaining a growing repository of secondary data archives accessible to the IDEAS community, in collaboration with other research constellations.
  • Collaboration & Support: Supporting thesis and capstone projects, encouraging cross-constellation cooperation, and building observatories and smaller data archives in specific research locales.

Student Associate Team with Data Insight Initiative:

  • Ankur Singh (24 JSGP)
  • Aditi Desai (Associate)
  • Geetali (23 JSGP)
  • Munazza Tazkeer Hussain (24 JSPH) | Summer Internship
  • Kandula Sai Gayathri (20 JGLS) | Summer Internship
  • Archisa Dalal (23 JSGP) | Summer Internship

Over the next two years, the Centre will focus on 2–3 key policy domains for piloting research, archive-building, and dissemination activities. These domains will evolve in response to faculty interest and student engagement.

MOUs and Collaborations

Data Insights at IDEAS has recently signed a Letter of Understanding (LoU) with the FLAME Centre for Legislative Education and Research, to work together on their excellent India State Story project. This project aims to uncover the interesting political and historical narratives of the formation of districts in India, and also to build a novel dataset on the spatio-temporal evolution of Indian districts, which will be useful for researchers working on longitudinal data on India.
