Author Bio: 

Dr. Chirashree Dasgupta's research and teaching has been focused on different dimensions of the political economy of institutions and accumulation with a focus on patriarchy, race, caste and class and the role of law in the political economy of accumulation in trade, finance, industrialization and public policy. She has worked on the relationship between personal laws, tax and corporate governance in India. Her recent work focuses on caste, gender, labour, production and social reproduction. Her book titled State and Capital in Independent India: Institutions and Accumulation was published by Cambridge University Press in October 2016. After her graduation and master's in economics from Jadavpur University, she worked for seven years in the private corporate sector. She then did her MSc and PhD from the School of Oriental Studies (SOAS), University of London.  She had been a faculty member at Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD), Centre for Economic Policy and Public Finance, ADRI; the Department of Economics, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London; and Deputy Country Director International Growth Centre, Bihar.
